Tomhegan is one of Moosehead's Lake’s largest private shorefront landowners, with one and one-half miles of unspoiled beauty and easy access to exploring the 40 mile lake. The cabins and Main Lodge are situated on a slope of southern exposure. One can enjoy a beautiful sunrise or sunset from the front porch or sit by a lakeside campfire and watch a spectacular moonrise while the loons call.

Set well back from the lake, the cabins and lodge afford privacy, comfort and, peace and quiet .  Enjoy all the comforts of home and total relaxation with not a thing in the world to disturb the serenity of the setting.

Enjoy the Wildlife - Camera enthusiasts and adventurers can explore surrounding woods and thrill at the sight of plentiful deer, moose and even an occasional bear. Hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing are favorite activities. You can take a leisurely walk, ski or snowshoe down a quiet wooded trail or, a challenging climb up nearby Mt. Kineo to a spectacular view of Moosehead Lake and Mount Katahdin.Just a short boat ride, kayak or canoe paddle from our dock, the 4 mile Socatean Stream is a nature lover’s paradise. You can usually spot moose, deer, bald eagles and countless smaller animals as you explore this exciting spot.

Hiking and Biking - Aside from the many regional places to hike and explore, our well marked trails originating from Tomhegan offer a chance to get out into the woods and explore without getting lost. Walking or biking the endless miles of remote woods roads gives you an opportunity to see wildlife, pick berries, take pictures or just enjoy the great outdoors. Climb Mount Kineo, take a boat to the base of the mountain and climb to the fire tower. Beautiful! One of the most popular attractions on Moosehead Lake is Mt. Kineo.  Hiking at Mt Kineo is breathtaking - click here for a trail map. Aside from the rich history and unique geological characteristics, it's a spectacular hike and has a extremely scenic and fun
golf course to play.

Beaches - There are many pebble beaches on Moosehead Lake to explore and enjoy.  Just two coves north of our marina dock, is a beautiful secluded one and just south, is one that is just a short trail walk from your cabin or the lodge.   Rent a canoe, kayak or boat, pack a picnic lunch and enjoy the day exploring the Lake to find your own private beach.

Whitewater rafting - Rockwood is a favorite starting point for canoeists and white water float trips. They range in length from one day to several days. The Kennebec and Penobscot Rivers offer the most challenging and picturesque white water in the East. Every bit as challenging as Idaho's Salmon or the Colorado Rivers, these exciting trips can be arranged for you through our Managers.

Honeymooners - Tomhegan offers the perfect, romantic and private hideaway for newlywed couples.

Diana's Gravesite - Be sure to visit Diana's grave sight on the short trail in front of the lodge, down by the old water pump-house. Diana was the legendary deer who resided at Tomhegan all of 18 years of her life.
