Snowmobiling
The Moosehead Region
is a world class snowmobiling
destination. Being inland and in the
mountains ensures that the snowfall is
early and plentiful. Five snowmobile
clubs and a loyal group of groomers keep
hundreds of miles of local trails
well-marked and in top condition.
Tomhegan is
conveniently located to the famous
Moosehead Trail (ITS86) which offers 160
miles of spectacular and scenic riding,
with stops for coffee, lunch, and gas
along the way. The local trails join the
greater Maine Interconnecting Trail
System for those avid riders who want to
explore other parts of Maine, New
Hampshire, and even ride into Canada.
Trail condition
reports are easily accessible from local
snowmobile clubs (see below) or by
giving us a call. The most reliable
conditions are from January to mid
March, but this does vary depending on
annual snowfall.

Ice Fishing
With over a
mile of shorefront on Moosehead
Lake, Tomhegan offers easy
access to some of the most
productive ice fishing waters in
Maine. Ice fishing season runs
from January 1 through March 31.
Moosehead
Lake and its many surrounding
lakes and ponds are known for
their brook trout, landlocked
salmon, and lake trout (togue)
fisheries. Several nearby
smaller ponds provide exciting
action for small mouth bass and
white perch.
Bring your
own ice shack or rent one at
Tomhegan. Youll appreciate it
during those arctic like winter
days. Our resident Maine Fishing
Guide will be happy to put you
onto the fish or, you can
explore the miles of shoreline
and coves for your own hot ice
fishing spot. Late winter
fishing can be spectacular, when
the sun is bright and warming.
